La Villa de Soledad Bed & Breakfast
A unique, lovely eco resort that is reminiscent of the Spanish Hacienda buildings from colonial times. Located high above the river, it has some of the best views of the Cangrejal River and the thickly forested tropical jungle of Pico Bonito National Park. Its location is ideal, with direct access to the put in for white water rafting, walking distance to the zip line canopy tour at Jungle River Tours, and only 200 yards from the Visitors Center for Pico Bonito National Park. La Villa de Soledad is perfect for those who want to relax in their hammocks, enjoy a day full of adventure hiking the jungle or rafting down the white waters of the Cangrejal River or looking to get a good view of the abundant bird life in the area.
Although not officially open as a restaurant, Soledad Dupuis, owner and hostess at the property, is famous for her outstanding home cooking, cooks up a meal for her guests that always sparks raving reviews! Omega Tours Jungle Lodge
The pioneer on the Cangrejal River, open since 1996, Omega Tours Jungle Lodge offers a variety of accommodations. Sleeping areas range from lovely cabins with two separate rooms sharing a bath (with outstanding views of the forest), to a nice rustic cabana over a creek with dorm style rooms and shared bath. Also available, for those that want to rough it, Omega Tours has tents that you can set up on wooden platforms built specifically for this purpose.
Omega Tours offers professional white water rafting and kayaking trips on the Cangrejal River, as well as expeditions to other rivers in the country such as a 4 day, 3 night Sico River tours and a multi-day tours down the Platano River in the heart of the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve. They also keep very nice and healthy horses for a pleasant horseback riding tour. Hosts are German, so German, English and Spanish are readily spoken on the premises. Silvia and Udo, the owners, live on the property and are always there. They also have a small pool and a very pleasant restaurant bar that is visited by locals, tourists from other resorts, and of course, their own guests.
The newest addition to the diverse lodging alternatives at the Cangrejal River Valley. The Hotel Rio is located in the heart of the “tourist area” of the Cangrejal River, right between Villas Pico Bonito and Jungle River Lodge. Featuring two different buildings, a lovely two bedroom house with a spacious terrace overlooking the Cangrejal River and a new building up on the hill with breathtaking views of El Bejuco Waterfall. A total of 6 rooms are available within the complex. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, if somewhat spartan. The rooms in the 2 bedroom home have air-condiitoning. The Hotel will have a small restaurant: the Green Tortilla that will offer both restaurant and bar service.
Jungle River Lodge
Leave hotels behind! Located directly on the river. This is one of the most popular spots for backpackers, as well as the Honduran adventure travelers. Accommodations are basic, however, they are in a continual process of building and upgrading their facilities. Jungle River Lodge has a lovely, truly unique natural pool contained within huge boulders of the Cangrejal River. Tour options include an in house zip line canopy tour, as well as white water rafting. Facilities include a small restaurant and bar with a limited menu.
Villas Pico Bonito
A beautiful sprawling tropical setting with private one, two, and three bedroom modern villas. Richard Adamson, the owner, is a Brit who has settled in Honduras, and put a huge amount of work into this garden paradise. Villas Pico Bonito includes the only infinity pool in the area, with delightful views of the Cangrejal river. A small, but pleasant restaurant and bar offers food for those guests that prefer not to make use of their fully equipped kitchenettes in the villas. The restaurant is open to the public Thursday through Sunday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Las Cascadas Lodge
The most exclusive accommodation on the Cangrejal River, a step up from your high-end hotels. Las Cascadas is a designer home that was turned into a deluxe eco lodge. Built around a winding creek which spills out into a set of waterfalls, the two main rooms have a direct view of the waterfalls from each bed. Outside this main house is a large private cabin (no kitchenette) with an additional loft area, making for a total of four available rooms at Las Cascadas Lodge.
The resort is all inclusive, meaning that meals and drinks are included in the price of the room. Service is first class, and the cost reflects as much. Rooms are air-conditioned, and naturally have a private bath with hot water. Wifi is available within the main house, which has a common area for meeting or relaxing. A nice outdoor garden area with a pleasant pool is also on hand for guests. This resort is exclusive and does not serve visitors seeking to buy a meal at the restaurant or a drink at the bar.
La Canasta Ecolodge
A relatively new option, La Canasta Ecolodge is a secluded property overlooking the Cangrejal River. It is also home to a small sewing cooperative that produces colorful handmade quilts and other products that are sure to brighten up you home! Access to the hotel is via a long cable with a makeshift iron made basket. Hence the name of the lodge. 6 rooms with shared baths, ceiling fans and access to internet. Dona Rosario, the owner and innkeeper is a lovely lady that is extremely friendly. She will go out of her way to please her guests. There is no luxury at this ecolodge, but it is clean and friendly. If you want to be isolated this is the place for you. A word of caution, the cable car/basket trip over the river is not for the faint of heart. If you are afraid of heights, this place is not for you! It is a good idea to book in advance to make sure they are waiting for you and get the cable car ready for you!
Cabanas del Bosque
Located in the lovely community of las Mangas. This community owned property is basic, but clean. They also have a nice comedor where you can eat your meals. Although not on the river, access to the river is close by. Enjoy the nice views of the mountains from you cabins. They have a total of 4 rooms, each with two sets of bunk beds, and each with its own bathroom.
They do not have a web page, so you will need to call in to make a reservation. Call Alexis Rosales, he is the manager, community leader in charge of the Cabins at 504 9462 7426. Alexis does not speak English, so make sure you have someone that can translate for you! Alternately, contact Reservaciones Turisticas La Ceiba, they help market this hotel. This is a great option if you are interested in community based tourism and helping a local community by spending your money in the services they provide to tourists!
El Encanto de Dona Lidia
Located in the community of Las Mangas. El Encanto de Dona Lidia is a small property with a total of 5 rooms. Facilities include a small pool, a sauna, a restaurant bar area and access to the Cangrejal River. Rooms each have a private bath with hot water, ceiling fans and air conditioning. www.elencantodedonalidia.com. There is direct access to the river as well as a small pool where you can cool off on the hottest of days. They also have a pool table on premises for those that wish to play a game of pool under a nice thatched roof hut. A full service restaurant and bar operates on the premises. Owners David and Carminia are usually on site to care for guests.
Casa Cangrejal B&B
The Casa Cangrejal has closed its doors as a Bed and Breakfast. We hope that they reopen soon and have them be part of the community of hotels in the Cangrejal River Valley!
