2016 is here and we have some good updates from the Cangrejal River.
Perhaps the first bit of good news of the year is that there is a construction team working on the road. They started the last week of December 2015 and are working on updating the road. Although the Cangrejal River Road is an all weather dirt road, it does require maintenance on a regular basis. This last year we have been lucky, as they have worked on it more than once. Let us hope that 2016 will see more of the same! As of today, they are already around km 9, just in front of La Villa de Soledad B&B. Coming and going from La Ceiba to the Cangrejal River lodges is a breeze with the road in good shape! Way to go!
El Nino has meant a lot less rain for Central America in general, and Honduras is no exception. The good news is that it is always lush green around the Cangrejal River Valley. The Cangrejal River and the creeks joining it however have been running lower than normal. Although it does diminish the quality of the white water rafting trips, the plus side is that the River is absolutely awesome to swim in! Clear water, nice temperature, absolutely delightful! The white water rafting outfits have modified their tours slightly. This allows their guests have more time to play in the river before the shortened tour. Guests have a chance to swim, climb up boulders and jump into the river, and basically have their time of their life at the river!
As the winter has set in, we are hoping for more cold fronts to come in and drop more water in the mountains. So far, only one has done so, which on the other hand, means that the days have been superb, with lots of blue skies, nice and sunny and yet, not too hot and humid as it is in the summer months!
Last but not least, a new sign has come up along the Cangrejal River Road. It reads “Hotel Rio” the sign also promotes rafting, a Restaurant and Bar plus the hotel itself. We are looking forward to their grand opening, and welcome them to our nice community along the Cangrejal River. As they say, “the more, the merrier”.
According to CNN, Honduras should be one of the top emerging destinations for tourism in 2016. With that in mind, we welcome you to come visit us at this magnificent destination while the rooms are still both, available and affordable!
